Artwork by Michael Reeder ... Michael Reeder was Artwork by Michael Reeder ...

Michael Reeder was born in Dallas, Texas in 1982, where he grew up influenced by the local skate and street culture. Drawing and painting in traditional mediums from a young age, Reeder found himself drawn to the underground, unseen, yet very public form of painting graffiti.

Reeder’s current work commands attention through the use of bold color, graphic geometric patterns and realism. His portrait work is heavy, steeped in solemn imagery, yet saturated with bright, eye-popping color. Greatly influenced by the subject of defining identity, his fascination lies within the individual self, and those fleeting in-between or contemplative states that zap you out of mundane reality ...

Jun Inoue was raised in regional Kanagawa, Japan, where he studied Shodō (traditional Japanese calligraphy). His grand father, a Zen Monk, became a major influence on his philosophy and aesthetic vision. Upon moving to Tokyo, the energy of the city’s underground - jungle, hip-hop and most importantly, graffiti - played a major role in further shaping his aesthetic development.

At the time, Tokyo graffiti had become focused on distinctive sweeping movements and minimalistic abstract shapes, a stylistic direction inspired by visionary Tokyo artists Kami and Sasu. It was in this scene that Jun found the platform for his unique vision.

Raymond Hains (9 November 1926 – 28 October 2005) was a prominent French visual artist and a founder of the Nouveau réalisme movement. In 1960, he signed, along with Arman, François Dufrêne, Yves Klein, Jean Tinguely, Jacques Villeglé and Pierre Restany, the Manifesto of New Realism.

Opposed to the heroic existentialism championed by Abstract Expressionism, Hains found meaning from vernacular objects and images. “The picture should not be considered as a world in itself, but the world itself should be seen as a picture,” he once said.

Artwork by Anabelle Marquis ... Annabelle studied Artwork by Anabelle Marquis ...

Annabelle studied Fine Arts at Cegep St-Laurent and Graphic Arts at Cegep Ahuntsic, both in Montréal. Upon completing her schooling, she devoted six years to graphic arts and illustrations before concentrating on painting in 2006. Her artistic approach is deeply tied to colour and composition and the unique way she mixes collage with paint. Each painting is fresh and spontaneous, full of ‘joie de vivre.’ Using mixed media collage with gold leaf, she is equally happy painting purely abstract or figurative work. Striking colours and strong design are at the heart of her pieces and further draw each viewer into her world.

Annabelle's goal is to captivate the beholder's gaze, but she also strives to connect with the mind. She creates visual scavenger hunts that link the conscious to the unconscious. Using fragments of a magazine, flocked wallpaper, and fabric, she spreads her torn handiwork upon the canvas and, little by little, forms come into being.

“I enjoy the sensation of dried glue and pigment on my hands… I do not start off with a preconceived idea; the paper guides me.” -Annabelle Marquis

Since graduating from Kingston University in 2010 and moving to London in 2011, Hattie has created a varied portfolio having worked with creatives such as Roman Coppola and for artists like SZA, Ariana Grande and Kylie Minogue. With a vibrant, tongue in cheek visual identity, she is a self proclaimed 'professional doodler' with a unique and playful illustration style that extends itself through the worlds of advertising, art and fashion.

In recent years her notoriety has increased due to a personal project titled 'doodle-bombing' where she draws over the covers of influential publications such as Interview, Vogue, i:D and Playboy. Part homage and part satire, this ongoing personal project, which began in 2010, has formed the basis for most of her commercial projects and endeavours, avoiding a more conventional illustrative style, her work is bold and experimental in application, enabling her to eschew the more traditional boundaries within the field of illustration.

She Says : “I often feel like I walk my artist’s path in bare feet, with my face toward the starry sky. I create from a place of lightness, ease and not-so-ordinary magic. Following the soft voice of my inner guide has shaped the artist I am today.

As a child, imagination and creativity were my sanctuary, and it was always that which I made with my hands that delighted my spirit and made me the most proud. As a teenager I fell in love with charcoal drawing.

Then I stopped.

He sayS "I manipulate paper maps to construct other forms, usually portraiture. I call this process topopointillism; a direct combination of topography and pointillism.

Using traditional materials such as ink, paint and pencil, I make gradual changes to the contours, roads and other patterns found in cartography. These changes allow me to tease out the human form, resulting in a comfortable coexistence of figure and landscape. I aim to preserve the functionality of each map by feeding the composition instead of fighting it – I often spend hours studying the terrain before I begin any physical processes. I’m interested in the degree of subtlety behind each synchronisation, and the way in which a completed map behaves more like a portrait when viewed from further away – it’s almost paradoxical that a portrait should lose detail when examined closely. Artwork by Fred Tomaselli ... Fred Tomaselli crea Artwork by Fred Tomaselli ...

Fred Tomaselli creates psychedelic paintings that explore human perception and the vibrant complexity of the natural world. To build his collage-based works, he gathers a multitude of images from field guides, nature books and other sources, and assembles them into pulsating figures and geometric patterns.

He blends formal and conceptual elements, and multiple artistic traditions, into works that vibrate with internal conflict and information overload. Tomaselli covers these rich compositions in resin, encapsulating layers of paint, collaged images, leaves and other objects into a floating surface that imbues them with a “sense of deep time.” For Tomaselli, painting is a route to alternative perception, and his colorful works transport us into a world of transcendent natural beauty that has been polluted by the pathologies of contemporary life. He invites us to get lost on our journey to this other dimension and to discover the boundless intricacy of nature. And when we arrive, he reveals a natural world that is at once sublime and afflicted by the countless battles that rage within it.

Kazuo Shiraga was a Japanese artist best known for his performative painting practice. Shiraga’s gestural style was influenced by American Abstract Expressionism and indicative of his participation in the Gutai avant-garde movement.

“I want to paint as though rushing around a battlefield, exerting myself to collapse from exhaustion,” the artist once proclaimed. Born on August 12, 1924 in Amagasaki, Japan, he graduated from the Kyoto Municipal Special School of Painting in 1948, and joined the Gutai group in 1954. In a seminal early work, Challenge to the Mud (1955), the artist explored the gesture of sculpting clay by throwing himself and contorting his semi-naked body in a pit of mud.

Artwork by Jou Lee .... Originally from South Kor Artwork by Jou Lee ....

Originally from South Korea, Jou Lee studied Fine Arts at Ewha University in Korea and currently lives in Montreal, Canada. Her diverse portfolio shows a mastery over a vast range of mediums including encaustic, watercolor, pastel, oil and acrylic painting as well as the ease with which she moves from figurative work to abstraction. This fluidity is highlighted by the artist’s unique mixed media technique that is constantly evolving over time. Heavily textured, each piece is vibrantly rendered by explosions of colors and subtle drawings where various objects, patterns and forms are intertwined to create a striking new visual universe.

Since early childhood, Jou Lee dreamt of becoming an artist. Her artwork explores this creative and personal journey. Both moments in time and elements of nature are inserted into different scenes in her pieces, expressing an emotional narrative and the artist’s attempt to capture the essence of life that connects all humanity. The omnipresence of symbols and the spontaneity of gesture transform each piece into an allegory. The resulting composition is refreshingly contemporary, dynamic and captivating.
